Olympian Whitfield joins president’s run

October 9, 2013, VICTORIA (ISN) – Olympic champion Simon Whitfield will be among those participating in the next president’s run, Oct. 11, at the University of Victoria.

This is the fourth noon-hour run led by President Jamie Cassels since the start of classes in September to promote healthy and active living on campus.

A four-time Olympic triathlete with a gold medal from the 2000 Sydney Olympics, silver from Beijing in 2008 as well as being Canada’s flag-bearer at the 2012 London Olympics, Whitfield has 12 national championships and 14 world cup victories.

Members from the community as well as students, faculty and staff are welcome to join the run, which is approximately four to six kilometres in distance.

The runs are held in conjunction with Vikes Athletics and Recreation, whose staff and volunteers provide a warm-up and support along the route.

Subsequent runs will be listed in the UVic calendar at events.uvic.ca as they are scheduled.

Where: Starts and finishes at the Student Affairs Plaza, between McKinnon Gym and the UVic Bookstore at University of Victoria
