Vikes women to compete at Western Washington Classic

October 10, 2013, VICTORIA (ISN) – After finishing in second place at the Charles Bowles Invitational last week, the University of Victoria Vikes women’s cross country team will travel to Bellingham, Wash. to compete in the 40th annual Western Washington Classic Invitational on this weekend on Oct. 12.

Five Vikes will be competing including third-year Shauna McInnis who was the fastest paced Vike at the Charles Bowles Invite, running the 5-km event in 17:59.40 and Canada West first team all-star Jenna Van Vliet who ran a time of 18:14.70. Competing in their first competition of the cross-country season are veterans Rachel Francois,Madeline MacDonald and team captain Kendra Pomfret.

The event plays host to a field of 15 teams including Canadian competitors University of British Columbia, Trinity Western, Simon Fraser University, and UBCO.

At last year’s event, the Vikes women finished in fourth place just shy of Canadian competitiors Simon Fraser University with MacDonald being the fastest Vike to cross the line with a time of 22:11.

The women’s 6-km event starts at 10:00 a.m on Oct. 12 at East Lake Padden Park.
