October 9, 2013, Kamloops, BC (ISN) —The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team have the chance to move back into first place in the PACWEST this weekend.

The WolfPack (6 wins, a tie and two losses) will tangle with the front running Douglas College Royals on Saturday (Oct 12). The Royals have seven wins, a tie and two losses. They do have a game in hand on TRU. Game time is 2 pm at Hillside Stadium.

“We are expecting a battle on our hands to salvage our positioning in the league standings,” says WolfPack co-head coach Sean Wallace. “The game on Saturday is probably the biggest of the season and will show us whether we belong at the top of the league with the other strong teams.”

The WolfPack are coming off a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat on Sunday (Oct 6). “We were in control of the game and let it slip away from us,” said Wallace about a match which his team led 2-1 at one point. “We need to be better at protecting the lead in that situation. UBCO deserved what they got as they outworked us when it counted.”

Wallace is expecting a total team effort this weekend against Douglas and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, who are at Hillside on Sunday (Oct 13). “This weekend is going to be a grind and the players will have to dig deep to get results. We are trying to get them to focus on one game at a time.”

The WolfPack have the PACWEST’s top offensive weapons. Justin Wallace (4th year, forward, Kamloops, BC) leads the league with eight goals in nine outings. Oriol Torres (3rd year, midfield, Barcelona, Spain) has five goals in seven matches.

Kick off Sunday is also 2 pm.

The WolfPack will play a third game this weekend. On Thanksgiving Monday (Oct 14), the Capilano University Blues will come to town for a 2:30 PM match up. This game was to have been played in North Vancouver, BC on September 28 th but was postponed due to poor field conditions.
