Vikes men’s and women’s golf, set to defend Vikes Shootout titles

October 13, 2013, VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s golf teams will hit Cordova Bay Golf Course this week, Oct. 14-15, in sought of defending their Vikes Shootout title.

This year both the men’s and women’s teams show a lot of turnover as the women will compete without defending champion Megan Woodland, while the men will be have representation from 2012 NAIA champion Carson Kallis.

Last year the Vikes men finished first overall with a tema score of 879 thanks to a third-place finish from Matthew Broughton who shot 72-76-71 across three rounds while, two other Vikes placed in the top 10. This year the Vikes men’s team will be represtented by Sean Hay, Bruce Tomie, Jesse Teron, Jamie Cartwright and Eric Praught. Competing individually will be Kallis, Broughton, Alex Cartwright and Connor Gann.

The women enter this year’s tournament as the two-time defending champions as last year Woodland also won her second-straight Vikes Shootout individual title with a 148 score. Without Woodland the Vikes women will rely on last year’s third-place finisher Brynn Tomie as well as Cari Chow, Emily Nicol, Michaela Abey and Laura Ferreira. Competing as an individual will be Shannon Raina, Cadence Hellman and Cassandra Paynter.

Tee times will begin tomorrow, Oct. 14, at noon with the final tee-offs happening around 1:40 p.m. The Vikes men and women will be in the early group. On Oct. 15 tee times are set for 8:00-9:40 a.m. with leaders having the later start, while the event is expected to wrap up around 2:00 p.m.
