October 12, 2013, Kamloops, BC (ISN) – The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack continue their unbeaten ways in PACWEST women’s soccer. The two time defending league champions upped their record to nine wins and two draws after beating the Douglas College Royals 2-0 before 200 fans at Hillside Stadium.

“We were a bit nervous going into this one,” said WolfPack head coach Tom McManus. “We knew that playing a team which was 1 and 9 could make us a little overconfident. We didn’t play as well as we could.”

The WolfPack scored the only goal of the first half when McDonalds/TRU Bookstore “Leader of the Pack” Player of the Match Bronwyn Crawford (4th year, midfield, Kamloops, BC) took a feed from Alanna Bekkering (5th year, midfield, Kamloops, BC) and stuck out her foot and went lower left hand corner on Royals keeper Rebecca Mainardi (1st year, Maple Ridge, BC).

TRU got their other goal in the second half at the 63 rd minute, Kelsey Martin (2nd year, midfield, Kamloops BC) used her speed to break down the right side and draw two defenders. Martin slipped the ball to the left side of the park where Bekkering was there to easily put in the ball. It was Bekkering’s PACWEST leading 10 th goal in 11 matches.

Emily Edmundson (4th year, Kamloops, BC) notched her third shutout of the season.

McManus praised Crawford, Martin and first year centre back Megan Baird (Cloverdale, BC). ‘Bronwyn did everything today at both ends of the field. At one end, she was defending at the goal line and then comes down and scores a go. Megan was winning everything in the air and had a personal battle going with their striker (Angela Carotenuto (2nd year, Maple Ridge, BC). Kelsey worked hard at being aggressive and used her speed to create chances.”

The WolfPack continue their homestand with a match against Kwantlen Polytechnic University Eagles on Sunday (Oct 13) at Noon at Hillside. Douglas, now 1 and 10 visit the UBCO Heat in Kelowna.
