October 14, 2013, VICTORIA (SN) – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team are currently in second place at the annual Vikes Shootout hosted Oct. 14-15 at Cordova Bay Golf Course. The defending champions and hosts are currently three strokes back of first placed Concordia with a score of 298.
It was a Tomie affair as siblings Bruce and Brynn Tomie currently lead their respective Vikes teams after round one. Bruce Tomie is currently fourth overall for the men after a 2-over 73 score, while Eric Praught is tied for fifth after a 3-over 74 performance.
UBC’s Nate Ollis, competing as an individual, leads the field of 39 after a 1-under 70 score, while Concordia’s Ryan Melnychuk and Jess Wingett are currently second and third with scores of par-71 and 1-over 72, respectively.
Rounding out the Vikes team is recent Canada West championship winner Sean Hay, who was 4-over 75 and tied for ninth, as well as Jamie Cartwright and Jesse Teron. Cartwright shot 5-over 76 to sit tied for 11th and Teron finished 10-over 81and tied for 30th.
Concordia is currently first overall with a team score of 295, while the Vikes trail with 298. Alberta and Lethbridge are currently tied for third with scores of 310.
Competing for the Vikes as individuals were Matthew Broughton, tied for fifth (3-over 74), Alex Cartwright, tied for 15th (6-over 77), Carson Kallis, tied for 17th (7-over 78) andConnor Gann, tied for 36th (14-over 85).
Oct. 15 tee times are set for 8:00-9:40 a.m. with leaders having the later start, while the event is expected to wrap up around 2:00 p.m.
