October 16, 2013, OSHAWA, Ont. (ISN) – The official start to the college basketball season has arrived as the 37th running of Durham College David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament will take place from October 18-19 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
Eight of the top teams from the Ontario Colleges Athletic Associations (OCAA) will be competing in the two-day tournament. This year’s field will include the Fanshawe Falcons (London), Centennial Colts (Scarborough), Niagara Knights (Welland), St. Lawrence Vikings (Kingston), St. Clair Saints (Windsor), George Brown Huskies (Toronto), Loyalist Lancers (Belleville) and the hosting Durham Lords (Oshawa.).
Four games will take place throughout the day on Friday starting at 2 p.m. The teams will then be split up into a two brackets (winners/losers) for action on Saturday. The championship final is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 19.
Algoma University won the title last season with an 87-76 win over George Brown in the finals. Durham’s last David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament title was back in 2010.
