October 17, 2013, Brandon, MB. (ISN) – Members of the Brandon Wheat Kings will be packing up and heading out to Wawanesa Thursday night for the first Minor Hockey Caravan of the 2013-14 Western Hockey League season.
Fresh off backstopping the Wheat Kings to a come from behind overtime victory over the Warriors in Moose Jaw Wednesday night, veteran netminder Curtis Honey will be one of three players practicing in Wawanesa. Honey turned aside 30 shots and was named the game’s first star as the Wheat Kings improved their record to 6-5-0 on the season.
In addition to skating with several minor hockey teams in Wawanesa, Honey, Chad Robinson and rookie Ryley Lindgren will be signing autographs and distributing tickets to this Saturday’s “Pink the Rink” game against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers.
The tickets and visit are courtesy of Canadian Tire and the Construction Association of Rural Manitoba.
Thursday’s visit will be the first of five Minor Hockey Caravans to be hosted by the Western Hockey League club this season and comes days before the team heads out of town for its annual west coast road trip.
Saturday’s “Pink the Rink” night, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, will give fans and businesses the opportunity to bid on special theme game jerseys, to be worn by the Wheat Kings. While Robinson’s was auctioned off during Wednesday’s CKLQ broadcast from Moose Jaw, Ryan Pulock’s number two will be up for auction between 6am and 12 noon on Friday on 94.7 Star FM.
