October 18, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The South Island Royals would like to congratulate forward Cameron Coutre and defenceman Josh Anderson on being named to Team BC for the upcoming 2013 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup while Associate Coach Rob Milliken has been named to Team BC’s staff.
Coutre, a resident of Victoria, BC is skating in his first season with South Island. So far this season, the 5-8, 150 lb forward has skated in eight games collecting six points (2g-4a) along with two penalty minutes. This past spring, Coutre participated in the U16 BC Cup skating in four games with the Flyers. The Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Seattle Thunderbirds currently own Coutre’s playing rights.
Anderson, a 6-3, 210 lb rearguard has played in all eight games so far this season with the Royals. In those eight games, Anderson has tallied two assists along with six minutes in penalties. The Duncan, BC native participated in the U16 BC Cup last April, where he notched one assist in four games for the Bruins. Anderson was the first round, third overall selection of the Prince George Cougars in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Our entire team is very proud of the accomplishments made by Cameron and Josh on being named to Team BC,” South Island Head Coach Geoff Grimwood said. “Both have shown tremendous commitment and dedication to the team so far this year, and their selection validates that. We wish them all the best at the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup.”
Royals’ associate coach, Rob Milliken, will join Team BC as one of the team’s assistant coaches. The Victoria, BC resident is in his first season with South Island after splitting his time between Hockey Canada, BC Hockey and Victoria Racquet Club. Milliken enjoyed a playing career that saw him spend six seasons in professional leagues across North America.
The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup brings together the top-rated players under the age of 16 to represent their province in a four-team tournament each year. The tournament will be held from October 31, 2013 – November 4, 2013 at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, AB and is comprised of teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
South Island will welcome the Vancouver NE Chiefs to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for two games this coming weekend. Game one will go on Saturday, October 19th at 4:30 p.m. with game two the following day at 10:00 a.m.
