October 18, 2013, Quebec (ISN) – The Camosun Chargers men’s golf team came from behind to capture the bronze medal at the 2013 PING CCAA Golf National Championship at the Royal Quebec Golf Club, Quebec City.
The Chargers team scored the lowest round of the day finishing with 288 for a three day championship total of 881. The gold medal went to University of the Fraser Valley (863) and sliver to Humber College (875).
CCAA All Canadian Jarred Callbeck led the Chargers scoring a two under par 70, which included three birdies and only one bogey on the last day of the championships. Overall, Callbeck finished sixth on the leaderboard at 215. Colton Kalkanis of Georgian College was the top golfer at 201, eleven strokes ahead of silver medalist Aoron Pauls (211) Fraser Valley University.
“I am so proud of the guys for how they played all year, coming back from a big deficit in conference play and now to fight back at nationals to win a medal after a tough first round is tremendous,” stated Chargers head coach John Randle. “They are a great group of guys who never got down and didn’t give up. I am very happy for them and proud to be a part of the Chargers program!”
Rounding out the scoring for the Chargers were Grant Maskiewich 11th (220), Michael Flegel 22nd (224), Brett De Vires 36th (230) and
Brady Stead 45th (232).
