Victoria’s win streak stalled at five after 4-2 loss to Tri-City

October 18, 2013, Kennewick, WA – In a Friday night match-up at the Toyota Center, the Victoria Royals went up against the Tri-City Americans. The Royals gave Patrik Polivka the start in goal, while the Americans responded with Eric Comrie.

Tri-City struck early on a goal from Rodney Southham at the 2:28 mark. The Americans then added to their lead when Braden Purtill beat Polivka at 6:58. The Royals pushed hard to get on the scoreboard throughout the first period, but Tri-City maintained a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Lucas Nickles increased the Americans’ lead at the 3:55 mark of the second period, but Victoria struck right back at 4:56 when Ben Walker made a cross-ice pass that found Luke Harrison open in the slot. Comrie stopped Harrison’s first attempt, but the Royals’ forward buried his own rebound to decrease the deficit to two. The Royals cut the lead to one on a powerplay marker by Brett Cote at 11:36. Cote crept down from the left point before Walker threaded a pass to his tape which the Oakbank, MB native converted for his first goal of the season. After 40 minutes of play, the Americans held a 3-2 advantage.

Midway through the final frame, Tri-City struck again as Southham notched his second goal of the game. Victoria was relentless in the third period, outshooting the Americans 17-4, but Comrie stood tall and Tri-City hung on for a home victory. Americans 4 Royals 2.

Victoria went 1/4=25.0% on the powerplay, while Tri-City went 0/1=0.0%. The Royals outshot the Americans 39-23.

The Royals’ will face the Spokane Chiefs for the third time this season tomorrow at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. as Victoria completes a two-game road trip. The Royals return to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Friday, October 25th when they host the Kelwona Rockets to begin a five-game home stand.
