October 19, 2013, Saskatoon (ISN) – A loose puck picked up by University of Alberta’s Rhett Rachinski in the third period lifted the Golden Bears 4-2 over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday night in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.
After a scramble in front of the net, the puck landed on Rachinski’s stick at the top of the right faceoff circle. His quick shot slipped by Huskies’ netminder Ryan Holfeld glove side at 15:43 to give the Golden Bears the win.
With the win, the No. 1 ranked Golden Bears remain perfect on the season at 6-0-0. The No. 7 ranked Huskies fall to 2-4-0. A night earlier, the Bears won 3-1 in Saskatoon.
Saskatchewan opened the scoring as a five-on-three advantage ran out at 12:15 in the first period. Huskie captain Brennan Bosch was able to snap the puck by Alberta goalie Luke Siemens top shelf as Jordan Rowley stepped back onto the ice after his holding penalty.
Alberta capitalized on a man advantage of their own to tie the game at one just 2:25 into the second period with the first of two Jordan Hickmott goals in the frame.
The Huskies took a 2-1 lead on a rush into the Alberta zone when a Kenton Dulle wrist shot bounced off the chest of Siemens and into the net over his shoulder at 12:54 in the same frame. Hickmott tallied his second of the period at 17:50 to tie the game back at two.
Levko Koper added the empty net goal at 18:51.
Holfeld finished the game making 33 saves in the loss, while Siemens made 31 for the Bears.
Alberta was 1-for-6 on the power play, while Saskatchewan capitalized just once on the 11 opportunities.
The Huskies remain at home to host the Lethbridge Pronghorns next weekend, while Alberta returns to Edmonton to host the UBC Thunderbirds.
