The Vikes men continued their undefeated season, with junior Ryan Cassidy placing third overall in strong Division 1 field. The women also put forth another strong result, finishing second behind UBC with Shauna McInnis leading the Vikes women once again, finishing 22nd overall.

“The course was fast and both of our teams showed they are ready for the CIS Championships,” said Vikes head coach Brent Fougner. “Ryan ran an outstanding race against some of the top teams in California.”

A much smaller contingent of Vikes headed to Seattle’s Emerald City Open. Led by Weir in fifth-place, freshman Russell Pennock also finished close behind in eight-place. Junior Nicole Soderberg, the only other women in competition in Seattle, placed 28th overall.

“Our three men’s rookies ran tough today on a really hilly course,” said Vikes assistant coach Andrew Ellerton. “I’ve been impressed with the way our players have handled the increased distance and transition into the collegiate ranks.

The Oct. 19 races were the final tune-up for a majority of the Vikes as they prepare for the 2013 CIS National Championships, Nov. 9 in London, Ontario.
