Alberta men, UBC women top Canada West volleyball coaches’ polls

October 21, 2013, EDMONTON (ISN) – The Alberta Golden Bears were the runaway winner in a Canada West men’s volleyball preseason coaches’ poll, while the six-time defending CIS women’s volleyball champion UBC Thunderbirds also garnered early respect conference-wide.

In the men’s poll, Alberta received 10 of a possible 11 votes, with Trinity Western and Brandon each garnering a first-place vote. The Spartans edged the Bobcats by a single point to place No. 2 overall.

On the women’s side, UBC picked up the maximum 11 first-place tallies and No. 2 Trinity Western claimed the other. Manitoba placed third in the poll.
