TRU Wolfpack athletics: Baseball winds up fall season with split

October 21, 2013, Kelowna, BC (ISN) —The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack ended the fall portion of their 2013-14 season with a split. The WolfPack were in Kelowna on Sunday (Oct 20) taking on the Okanagan College Coyotes.

In the first game, the WolfPack were beaten 8-6 but came back in the night cap to win 8-5. The WolfPack finish the exhibition campaign with 14 wins, four losses and three ties.

In the first game on Sunday. Mike Riddle (LHP, Surrey, BC) started and went 5 and 2/3 innings giving up six hits, four runs (three earned) striking out three and walking three.

Regan Gillis (RHP, Fort McMurray, AB) was tagged with the loss. He went an inning and a third, giving up five hits, four earned runs and walking two.

Offensively, TRU was led by Evan Douglas (catcher, White Rock, BC) who was two for five with a double and a run batted in.

Jay Huggins (infielder, Nanaimo, BC) was two for four while Nolan Ursu (outfielder, Regina, SK) was two for five with a run batted in.

The night cap saw Peter Werth (RHP, Okotoks, AB) start and go four innings. He gave up two hits, a run and struck out six.

Emilio Foden (RHP, Abbotsford, BC) came on in relief and got the win. He tossed five innings of five hit ball, giving up five hits, striking out five and walking two.

Josh Hillis (infielder, Calgary, AB) was three for four with a double. James Oliver (first base, Trail, BC) was one for two with two runs batted in. Jordy Cunningham (outfielder, Delta, BC) was two for four with a triple and three runs batted in.

The WolfPack will train indoors until the Spring of 2014 when they will go to Spring Training in the United States.
