October 22, 2013, Halifax (ISN) – Running back Thomas Troop and punter/kicker Ryan Begin both of the Acadia Axemen, along with Jacob LeBlanc of the Mount Allison Mounties have been selected as the Week 7 AUS Football Players of the Week for their performances this past weekend.

Offensive Player of the Week

Name: Thomas Troop

  • Height and weight: 6’0″, 210lbs

Running back Thomas Troop of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 20, 2013.

Troop, a 6-foot-0 arts student in his second year of eligibility from Alliston, Ont., compiled 168 net yards in rushing on 30 carries to add to the Axemen’s 452 net offensive yards in their 27-11 victory over the StFX X-Men on Saturday afternoon at Acadia.

He also scored the first of two Acadia touchdowns late in the third quarter on a four-yard rush and was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Troop, the 2012 AUS rookie of the year, is currently second in the conference in rushing yards with 456 yards on 92 carries.

Defensive Player of the Week

Name: Jacob LeBlanc

  • Academic program: Bachelor of commerce
  • Height and weight: 6’3″, 325lbs

Defensive lineman Jacob LeBlanc of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Football Defensive Player of the Week.

A third-year commerce student from Halifax, N.S., LeBlanc had two sacks in the Mounties’ 27-24 win Friday night over the Saint Mary’s Huskies.

He also had 10.5 tackles – nine solo and three assisted – in what was the first Mount Allison victory at Huskies Stadium since 1997.

LeBlanc was the 2011 AUS rookie of the year and a second-team CIS all-Canadian in 2012.

Special Teams Player of the Week

  • Hometown: Orleans, Ont.
  • Year of eligibility: Third
  • Academic program: BBA
  • Height and weight: 5’10”, 205lbs

Kicker and punter Ryan Begin of the Acadia University Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Begin, a third-year business student from Orleans, Ont., scored 11 points in Acadia’s 27-11 win Saturday over the StFX X-Men. This included connecting on three of four field goal attempts from the 13, 40 and 29-yard lines, respectively. His longest field goal of 40 yards is the longest in the conference this season.

He also had 11 punts for 379 yards in the game, the longest for 47 yards, and was good on both PAT attempts. Three of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line. Begin is currently second in field goals made this season. He is 10-for-12 on attempts.
