FREDERICTON: The University of New Brunswick is pleased toannounce that BMO Bank of Montreal will be the presenting sponsorof the 2013 CIS Men’s Soccer Championship.
The Bank of Montreal is well known for their support of socceracross Canada from the grass roots level through to theprofessional level.
At UNB the Varsity Reds soccer field wasnamed the BMO Centre in 2011 while UNB has been one of the Bank ofMontreal’s longest standing customers dating back to1889.
Lee Winchester, Regional Vice President for BMO Bank ofMontreal, is excited to enhance an already strong partnership withUNB.
“We have a long standing relationship with UNB and inparticular the UNB soccer program. We thought that it [enhancedpartnership] would also benefit our grass roots cause which issoccer across Canada.”
As at past championships hosted at UNB, the Varsity Reds willbring in school children from the community to cheer for the teamsand get a feel for how soccer is played at the universitylevel. Currently we have commitment from more than 500children and expect about 750 to attend the two early games on theThursday and Friday of the championship weekend – November7-10.
This also fits with the BMO Bank of Montreal vision. “Welike to think of ourselves as the soccer bank. And this fitsright into our overall strategy,” continued Winchester.
“We’re very pleased that BMO has chosen to supportthe CIS soccer championship financially,” commented JohnRichard, Director of Athletics at UNB.
“With corporate support such as this it helps us [UNB] toshowcase our teams and to continue to bring national championshipsto our campus,” continued Richard.
