October 25, 2013, VICTORIA (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes are proud to announce another successful year at the 2013 TLC Fund For Kids camps.

In partnership with The Q! The Zone, and Thrifty Foods, local youth aged 6-14 participated in basketball and, for the first year, field hockey camps, coached by Vikes varsity athletes and coaches.

After morning camps had concluded, participants headed to McKinnon gym for lunch, where they interacted and received autographs on official TLC Camp t-shirts from Vikes athletes. Campers also received a ticket to the Oct. 26 men’s and women’s basketball games as well as a day pass to the Nov. 2, UVic-hosted CIS/FHC women’s field hockey national championship.

A total of 33 campers registered for basketball and 18 for field hockey, while combined the camps raised $1,275. All proceeds go towards the TLC Fund For Kids, established in 1998 as a means of raising financial support for any non-profit organization. Located in the Capital Regional District, the TLC Fund For Kids dedicates themselves to children’s health, happiness and betterment of life.

“The Q! and The Zone’s TLC Fund for Kids are proud to partner with the UVic Vikes to host our semi-annual TLC Fund For Kids sports camps,” said Sarah Fletcher, president of the TLC Fund For Kids. “Together we give kids the opportunity to take part in a two-hour sports camp. The money we raise goes to helping kids in our community that need it most.”

Thrifty Foods has also demonstrated its commitment to delivering sport and active living opportunities to Victoria’s youth, expanding its long-running Vikes Thunder Squad program to include this year’s Vikes TLC Camp. In the spring and summer months, the Vikes and Thrifty Foods will partner together on the annual Vikes Relays and Summer Camps program, both with the goal of reducing barriers to participation.

The Vikes look forward to working with the The Zone, The Q! and Thrifty Foods to bring kids more opportunities in sport in the Victoria community through the TLC Fund For Kids!
