October 26, 2013, Victoria B.C. (ISN) – In a Friday night match-up at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, the Victoria Royals welcomed the Kelowna Rockets for the first of back-to-back home games.

The Royals gave Patrik Polikva the start in goal, while the Rockets countered with Jordan Cooke.

Tyler Soy looked to have opened the scoring for the Royals just over seven minutes into the game, but the goal was quickly disallowed by the officials. Seconds later, Cole Linker swung the momentum and gave the Rockets a 1-0 lead when he tipped Tyrell Goulbourne’s shot past Polivka. Kelowna continued to push and were rewarded at the 10:29 mark as Goulbourne slipped a rebound under Polivka’s left pad. The Royals attempted to claw their way onto the scoreboard, but found themselves down 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

The two teams traded powerplay chances in the first half of the second period, but neither could convert. Royals’ forward Logan Nelson was awarded a penalty shot at the 11:36 mark after he was brought down on a partial break. Nelson fired a wrist shot from the slot on the attempt, but was denied by the glove of Cooke. Then, after a scrambled face-off to the right of Polivka, Myles Bell increased the Rockets’ lead to three at 13:20. Ben Walker got Victoria on the board shortly thereafter with his fourth goal of the season. At the 14:25 mark, Brandon Magee fed Walker in the slot from the right wing before the Edina, MN product slipped a shot past Cooke’s right pad. Polivka concluded the period with a big glove save to keep the score 3-1 in favour of Kelowna as the teams headed into the second intermission.

Zach Franko restored Kelowna’s three-goal lead 2:49 into the third period, but Victoria continued to press. At the 10:22 mark, Luke Harrison was granted the Royals’ second penalty shot of the game, but his attempt was turned aside by Cooke once again. Victoria was unable to cut into the deficit in the late stages of the game and the visiting team skated away with the win. Rockets 4 Royals 1.
