October 26, 2013, Nanaimo, BC (ISN) —The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack will get the chance to win their third straight PACWEST women’s soccer championship.
The WolfPack’s unbeaten season continued in Saturday (Oct 26) as they beat the Langara College Falcons 5-1 in the PACWEST semi finals being played at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC.
‘We started out well but gave up for about 20 minutes,” said three time PACWEST coach of the year Tom McManus of TRU. ” It was a very chippy game and we escaped with a few bumps and bruises—specifically Bronwyn Crawford (4th year, midfield, Kamloops, BC) and Kelsey Martin (2nd year, forward, Kamloops BC).”
Both Crawford and Martin are PACWEST all-stars.
Alanna Bekkering (5th year, midfield, Kamloops, BC) proved why she is the two time PACWEST player of the year. She had the hat trick for TRU including the only goal of the first half.
Jaydene Radu (3rd year, forward, Calgary, AB) and Katie Sparrow (3rd year, forward, Kamloops, BC) had the other markers for the WolfPack.
Emily Edmundson (4th year, Kamloops, BC) got the victory in goal for TRU. ” She made a couple of big saves for us in this one,” McManus stated.
The WolfPack will meet up with Quest Kermodes in Sunday’s noon final. Quest came out on top of a match with the UBCO Heat 3-1 in their semi final.
“I expect a great match,” said McManus. “We beat them twice 1-0 during the regular season. I expect they will be pumped up to play us.”
The winner of the match will claim the PACWEST title and represent the league at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships which begin November 6 th at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, BC.
