October 29, 2013 (ISN) –  Here are the three Atlantic University Sport football players of the week for week #8. Jordan Botel, Devante Sampson, and Kyle McLean.

Offensive Player of the Week

Name: Jordan Botel

University: Mount Allison University

Position: Running Back

Hometown: Prince George, B.C.

Year of eligibility: Second

Academic program: BA

Height and weight: 5’10”, 200lbs

Running back Jordan Botel of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2013.

Botel, a 5-foot-10 arts student is his second year of eligibility from Prince George, B.C., compiled 113 net yards in rushing on 28 carries in Saturday’s 23-14 win over the defending AUS champion Acadia Axemen.

With the victory, the Mounties clinch second place in the conference standings and the hosting rights to the AUS championship semifinal game this Saturday against the third-place Axemen.

Botel led the conference in rushing this season with 758 total yards on 170 carries.

Defensive Player of the Week

Name: Devante Sampson

University: Mount Allison University

Position: Defensive Back

Hometown: Mississauga, Ont.

Year of eligibility: First

Academic program: BA

Height and weight: 5’8″, 157lbs

Defensive back Devante Sampson of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Football Defensive Player of the Week.

A first-year arts student from Mississauga, Ont., Sampson had 7.5 tackles, including 0.5 tackles for a loss, in Saturday’s 23-14 Mount Allison victory over Acadia.

He also had one interception for 18 yards in the win. Sampson finished tied for first in the AUS in interceptions this season with four.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Name: Kyle McLean

University: Mount Allison University

Position: Kicker/punter

Hometown: Nepean, Ont.

Year of eligibility: Third

Academic program: BA Geography

Height and weight: 6’2″, 205lbs

Kicker and punter Kyle McLean of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

McLean, a third-year geography student from Nepean, Ont., had 10 punts for 323 yards in the Mounties’ 23-14 win over Acadia on Saturday.

McLean also had six kickoffs for 245 yards in the matchup, was good on three of three extra-point kicks and added a rouge in the victory.
