Ramada Hotel and Golf Dome is pleased to recognize local coaches


October 29, 2013, SASKATOON (ISN) – The host committee for the 2014 CIS Men’s Hockey PotashCorp University Cup presented by Co-op is pleased to announce the return of the Thank Your Coach Brunch on Sunday, March 23rd at 11 am at the Ramada Hotel and Golf Dome, featuring a panel of local and national level coaches including Brent McEwen, Kevin Figsby, and Scott Frizzell amongst others.

Thank Your Coach provides minor hockey teams with an opportunity to send their coach(es) to an exclusive brunch to share experiences and learn from local and national level coaches. The panel will share coaching experiences and provide insight into how they think coaches can implement new ideas to make the game more enjoyable and safe for kids.

This years panel is lead by Brent McEwen a former Huskie hockey player (1977-1979), coach (1984-1993) and Physical Education graduate (BSPE ’83). McEwen recently had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, serving as an amateur scout in Western Canada for the Los Angeles Kings during their 2011-2012 season.

Joining McEwen on the panel will be Kevin Figsby, and Scott Frizzell.

Figsby serves as head coach of the Concordia Stingers and CIS Coaches Association President. He brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to panel. Figsby has completed his Canadian Hockey Association Level 4 Coaching Certification and has represented Canada as an assistant coach at the Winter Universiad along with assisting during evaluation camps for the Canadian National team.

Frizzell serves as Manager of Hockey Development for the Saskatchewan Hockey Association. He also sits on the Hockey Development Council with Hockey Canada.

Brunch attendees will join their team at a PotashCorp University Cup presented by Co-op game of their choice.

“We are pleased to once again offer this opportunity to celebrate coaches in our local hockey community,” said Grant Kook, Chair of the PotashCorp University Cup presented by Co-op. “This years panel offers coaches insight into the world of coaching from a university, professional, and international perspective. We aim to make this a fun event that will ultimately benefit both the coach and their players.”

To attend the Thank Your Coach brunch a team package can be purchased for $250.00. Packages include three coaches’ tickets to the brunch plus 17 players and three coaches for the game of your choice! Each coach will be recognized in a special publication at the championships for their great work in our community and building the stars of the future. Availability is limited and tickets are expected to go quickly.
