October 31, 2013, Central Saanich, BC – The Boulders Climbing Gym is pleased to announce that climber Elan Jonas-McRae is heading to Europe and will join North Vancouver climber Sean McColl in representing Canada in the final two International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup events of the season.
Both climbers will be competing in the lead/difficulty category in Valence, France on November 1-2 and in Kranj, Slovenia on November 16-17. Jonas-McRae and McColl are the only Canadian climbers registered in both competitions.
McRae hails from Nanaimo and is one of the top ranked Junior male difficulty / lead climbers in Canada. He is coming off 2013 wins in the Junior categories at both the BC Provincial championships and the Western Regional championships, as well as an impressive sixth place finish at the US Open Nationals, a second place finish at the Canadian Nationals in May and a 14th place finish at the World Youth Championships in August. He also recently competed in the UK National Climbing Championships where he captured silver medals in both the Junior and Senior lead competitions.

Born in Vancouver, McColl is the reigning overall men’s world champion and a former three-time world junior champion in the lead climbing category and two-time world junior champion in the speed climbing category. He lives and trains in France, and is an assistant coach of the Canadian National Youth Team, where he participated in the 2013 World Youth Championships held at the Boulders in August. He is coming off a recent silver medal in lead at the World Cup event in Wujiang, China, and two third place finishes in Lead World Cup Events at Mokpo, Korea, and Puurs Belgium. At present, McColl sits in 7th place in the 2013 World Cup standings for lead, and he placed third overall in bouldering.
