November 1, 2013, Prince George (ISN) – The Cariboo Cougars will look to match a season-high three-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon when they host the Kootenay Ice to open a weekend set at CN Centre.

The Cougars got back to .500 with a pair of wins over the Thompson Blazers in Chase last weekend and are looking to carry the momentum forward against the Ice.

“We’re really excited to get going again, coming off two wins,” Cougars head coach Bryan MacLean said. “We want to get on a roll here and this is a weekend we hope we’re able to do that.”

With a 5-5-0 record the Cougars sit in seventh place in the BC Major Midget League. The Ice are in 10th place at 1-8-1.

The teams will meet on Satuday at 1:15 p.m. and on Sunday at 10:15 a.m.

Four of the Cougars five wins this year have come away from Prince George and MacLean is hoping to use home ice advantage to its fullest this weekend.

“Just any success is good success for me,” he said. “But for sure we want to start winning at home and doing something for our fans who come out and support us.”

MacLean said last weekend the Cougars were tough on the puck, something he hopes carries over to this weekend as well.

“This weekend we’re going to try to increase our physicality again,” he said.

Last Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Blazers snapped a five-game losing skid. Steven Jandric was the hero, scoring the game winner with just 27 seconds left in the third. MacLean said the dramatic win was a big boost to his team.

“I know I breathed a huge sigh of relief,” he said. “I was on edge the whole game, but credit the guys, they stuck with it. We’re not going to go away and that’s going to be a huge characteristic of our hockey team.”

Last season the Cougars swept all four regular-season games against the Ice.
