Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup

November 2, 2013, Calgary, AB (ISN) – TJ Brown scored 4:17 into overtime to lift Team Alberta to a 3-2 victory over Team BC in round robin action at the 2013 Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup on Saturday afternoon at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, AB.

Brown earned Player of the Game honors for his overtime heroics.

Tyler Benson tallied a goal and an assist and Matthew Phillips netted his second goal of the tournament for Alberta, who close out the round robin with a perfect 3-0 record. Austin McGrath made 23 saves in the Alberta net to claim his second win of the tournament.

Tyson Jost and Dante Fabbro scored 1:21 apart in the third period for Team BC, who erased a 2-0 deficit to send the game to overtime but came up short in the extra period. Daniel Toews turned in a 39-save performance for Team BC, earning Player of the Game honors.

Team Alberta will meet up with Team BC in the Gold medal game on Sunday afternoon in a rematch of last year’s gold medal contest.

Game 6: Team Manitoba 5 – Team Saskatchewan 2

Calgary, AB – Nolan Patrick scored four goals, including three in the first period, to lead Team Manitoba to a 5-2 victory over Team Saskatchewan in the final round robin contest of the 2013 Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup on Saturday afternoon at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, AB.

Eric Lavoie also scored for Manitoba, who opened up a 4-0 lead by the 13:21 mark of the opening frame, while Ty Lewis and Vince Loschiavo each picked up two assists. Brett Evans turned aside 30 of 32 shots he faced to post the win for Manitoba, who finish the round robin with a 1-2 record.

Gage Ramsay scored both goals for Team Saskatchewan, who finish the round robin portion of the tournament with an 0-3 record. Declan Hobbs made 16 saves on 20 shots in the first period to take the loss while Colby Entz stopped 13 of 14 shots he faced the rest of the way in relief.

Manitoba and Saskatchewan will meet up again on Sunday morning in the Bronze medal game (9:30 am MT).
