The Vikes men’s lightweight single, rowed by Canadian U-23 member Alex Walker, the men’s lightweight pair, consisting of Walker and Lee Hall and men’s pair of Will O’Connell and Sean Decter all placed first in their time trials. UVic’s men’s eight placed fourth while the men’s lightweight four crew finished in fifth place.
“All in all it was not too bad of a day,” said Campbell. “I think tomorrow is going to be a fairly tight race with the top-four schools and how things are spread out.”
A majority of the CURC field was unable to train Friday as a result of 100-kilometre gusts of winds, while UVic was lucky to hit the water early in their practice runs.
“Today the course was quite flat,” said men’s rowing head coach Howard Campbell. ” There was a slight headwind but it was really good conditions for racing.”
Sun is in the forecast for tomorrow’s final draw, along with 32-kilometre gusts of wind. The draws will take place at McGill’s Olympic Basin, beginning at 6:00 a.m. PST.
