Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup

November 3, 2013, Calgary, AB (ISN) – The tournament All-Star team for the 2013 Western Canada U-16 challenge Cup was announced on Sunday afternoon at Father David Bauer arena in Calgary, AB.

Two Alberta players, two BC players and two players from Manitoba were among the six named to the tournament All-Star team.

Goaltender Ryan Kubic and forward Nolan Patrick of Team Manitoba, defenceman Kale Clague and forward Sam Steel of Team Alberta, and defenceman Dante Fabbro and forward Tyson Jost of Team BC were all selected to the tournament All-Star team, in recognition of their strong individual performances.

Kubic, a Vancouver Giants prospect, posted a 1-2-0 record with a 2.94 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage in three games for Manitoba, including stopping 22 of 25 shots to help Team Manitoba capture the Bronze medal with a 10-3 win over Saskatchewan on Sunday.

Clague, Team Alberta’s captain, recorded five assists in four games to help lead Alberta to the Gold medal, including a pair of assists in the Gold medal game. A first round pick of the Brandon Wheat Kings, Clague’s five assists led all defencemen in that category, while also tying him for first among defencemen in points.

Fabbro, a Seattle Thunderbirds prospect, tallied a goal and four assists for five points in four tournament games, tying him for the scoring lead among defencemen. Team BC’s captain, Fabbro recorded points in three of his team’s four contests.

Patrick, a first-round pick of the Brandon Wheat Kings, led all players in tournament scoring, finishing with five goals and seven assists for 12 points in four games. Patrick scored four goals in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Saskatchewan in the final round-robin contest, and followed up with six assists in the Bronze medal game on Sunday.

Team Alberta forward Sam Steel finished tied for first in team scoring with a goal and four assists for five points in four games. The Regina Pats’ first round pick was named Player of the Game for Alberta in two of the four games he played, including the Gold medal game versus Team BC in which he scored a goal and an assist.

Tyson Jost, an Everett Silvertips prospect, finished second on Team BC in scoring with two goals and five points in four contests. Jost recorded points in three of the four games he played, and was named Player of the Game for Team BC in their tournament-opening win over Team Manitoba.
