November 4, 2013, LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (ISN) – Canada’s National Women’s Team has arrived in Lake Placid, N.Y., for the 2013 4 Nations Cup, taking place Nov. 5-9 at the Herb Brooks Arena in the Olympic Center.
Canada looks to reclaim the gold medal after suffering a 3-0 loss to the United States in the gold medal game at the 2012 4 Nations Cup in Tikkurila, Finland. Canada last won gold at the 2010 4 Nations Cup, defeating the U.S. 3-2 in overtime in St. John’s, N.L.
The 2013 4 Nations Cup kicks off Tuesday, Nov. 5 with Canada playing Finland at 3:30 p.m. ET and Sweden playing the United States at 7 p.m. ET. Canada also takes on the United States in preliminary action Nov. 6 at 7 p.m., and Sweden on Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Canada’s roster for the 2013 4 Nations Cup is made up of 21 players, including three goaltenders, six defencemen and 12 forwards, who are members of the 27-player roster that has been centralized with Canada’s National Women’s Team in Calgary, Alta., since August in preparation for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

The 2013 4 Nations Cup will bring together four of the top women’s hockey countries in the world – Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Canada’s National Women’s Team has won the gold medal at the event 12 times, and has claimed silver on five occasions.
Canada’s National Women’s Team for the 2013 4 Nations Cup includes:
- 15 members of Canada’s National Women’s Team that won silver at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Ottawa, Ont. (Agosta, Apps, Birchard, Bram, Hefford, Irwin, Jenner, Johnston, Labonté, Lacasse, Larocque, Spooner, Szabados, Wakefield and Ward);
- eight members of Canada’s gold medal-winning team from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C. (Agosta, Apps, Hefford, Irwin, Johnston, Labonté, Szabados, and Ward);
- 17 players who represented Canada at the 2012 4 Nations Cup in Tikkurila, Finland (Agosta, Apps, Bendus, Birchard, Bram, Hefford, Irwin, Jenner, Johnston, Labonté, Lacasse, Larocque, Spooner, Szabados, Wakefield, Ward and Watchorn).
The 2013 4 Nations Cup will serve as an evaluation opportunity for Canada’s National Women’s Team coaching staff and Hockey Canada scouting staff for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
