The women’s top performances came from their pair crew of Jillian Legare and Rebecca Zimmerman as well as lightweight four crew of Becky Wilder, Cate White, Renae Barks, Emily Garry and Kiersten Van Gulick. Both boats placed second overall with times of 8:33.75 and 8:20.90, respectively.
“Our best race here was our pair,” said head coach Rick Crawley. “In the time trials yesterday they were fourth and they moved up to second, they raced really well.”
Barks and Garry’s lightweight double finished in third place with a time of 9:00.63 while Barks also finished third in her lightweight singles event, finishing with a time of 9:22.19. The Vikes women’s eight crew posted a fourth-place finish while Amanda Pomphrey raced to a 12th place finish after replacing Garry at the last minute.
“I was really proud of the kids,” said Crawley. “When you lose that many people from last year you’re wondering where you’re going to fit.”
The women’s crews will now head to Welland, Ont., to prepare for next weekend’s National Rowing Championships, taking place Nov. 9-10.
