The Carabins, who lost 1-0 to defending national champion UBC inThursday’s opening round, advance to the consolation finalfor fifth-place, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. AST. They will then faceeither Ryerson or Saskatchewan.

The result marked the end of the season for Saint Mary’s,which dropped a 3-0 decision to York in the first round.

“It was important for us after yesterday’s game tocome back and be on the positive side of the score,” saidCarabins head coach Pat Raimondo. “So I’m proud of theboys; they still found the energy and the enthusiasm to play thegame.”

Ilcu Mircea, a second-year striker from Romania, opened thescoring in the 20th minute. He brought the ball up the right sideof the 18-yard line, pushing it past goalkeeper Alex Bakolias, placing it in the bottom left corner.

Saint Mary’s starting keeper Adam Miller, an all-Canadianthis season, had to sit out the game with a groin injury.

The score remained 1-0 until the 81st minute, when Bah AbdoulKarmin struck the ball from the top of the 18 and put it into theright side of the net.

“You never feel particularly good when you lose, but Imean it’s good experience for a lot of our youngerkids,” said Huskies head coach Stewart Galloway.“It’s a bit disappointing for our older kids who aregraduating and leaving who have been in the program for five years, but that’s part of the process.”

Sissoko Adama, a second-year midfielder from Mali, was namedgame MVP for Montreal. Playing in his final match for the Huskies,Shawn Kodejs of Halifax received the honour for his team.
