The National Rowing championships feature an International Rowing Federation (FISA) format, with Vike rowers racing under their province’s banner in competition instead of competing as Vikes crews.

Vikes competing for Team B.C. are Sean Decter and Connor McGuigan in the men’s pair event. Second-year Vike and Canadian U-23 member Alex Walker will row in the lightweight men’s single, while fellow U-23 member Will O’Connell will match up with Trofym Anderson from Ontario as a mixed crew. Competing for Alberta in the lightweight men’s single is Sam Garber, while Ben Murphy will man Victoria Training Centre’s open men’s single.

On the women’s side, Vikes Madeline Spangehl and Elizabeth McConnell will pair up in B.C.’s u-23 boat while Jillian Legare pairs up with senior Rebecca Zimmerman. B.C.’s u-23 lightweight single will be rowed by fifth-year Emily Garry while Alberta and Saskatchewan’s u-23 boats will be rowed by Vikes Cate White and Renae Barks, respectively.

Alumni Alyssa Weninger and Antje von Seydlitz, will row in the Sr. A singles event for London Training Centre, while Theresa Berholtz will also compete for London in the lightweight single. Lindsay Jennerich will row for Victoria Training Centre in the lightweight single.

The National Rowing Championships provide great opportunities for junior, u-23, Sr. and para-rowing categories to race and potentially be identified for national team competition. Vikes will be competing against top rowing talents from ten clubs and eight provinces across Canada.
