November 13, 2013, Victoria (ISN) -The Victoria Royals will host the Seattle Thunderbirds at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for a weekend doubleheader this Friday, November 15th and Saturday, November 16th. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. both nights.
Seattle will make their only visit to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this season on Friday and Saturday. The two games will likely mark the only chance this year for Victoria hockey fans to watch highly-touted, 2015 NHL Draft top prospect Mathew Barzal in person. The 16-year-old rookie leads all North American rookies with 22 points (3g-19a) through the first 21 games of his WHL career. Barzal is currently second in scoring amongst Seattle skaters, trailing only Shea Theodore, an Anaheim Ducks’ first round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. The T-Birds (11-8-0-2) sit just one point back of the Royals at seventh in the Western Conference, but have lost their last five games.
The Royals (12-9-0-1) head into this weekend winners of their last two after victories in Seattle and Portland last weekend. Coleman Vollrath was given the nod in goal both games and rewarded the club with a 43-save performance against the T-Birds before he followed it up with a 41-save win in Portland. Vollrath currently sports the WHL’s best save percentage (.939) and third-best goals against average (2.21). Brandon Magee broke out of a goal scoring slump last weekend, in a big way. The veteran forward posted four goals in the two games including the overtime winner against the Winterhawks last Saturday.
