November 15, 2013, Kent (ISN) – Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced two current T-Birds and two T-Birds prospects have been named by Hockey Manitoba and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association to the 22-player roster that will represent Team West at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, December 29, 2013, to January 4, 2014, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
The four players are right wing Keegan Kolesar, defenseman Ethan Bear, center Lane Pederson and goalie Logan Flodell.
Kolesar has played in all 21 games this season for the T-Birds. He has one goal and three assists for four points with eight penalty minutes.
Bear has played in 17 games this season. He has one goal and three assists for four points with two penalty minutes.
Flodell is currently playing for the Regina Pat Canadians in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA league. In nine games Flodell has a 5-2-2 record with a 2.28 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.
Pederson is currently playing for the Saskatoon Blazers in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA league. In 15 games Pederson has seven goals and eight assists for 15 points.
Both Pederson and Flodell were at T-Birds Training Camp this fall.
The 2014 World U17 Hockey Challenge brings together the top players in the world born in 1997 or later. The tournament is made up of 10 teams; five from Canada – Quebec, Ontario, Pacific (Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon), Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) and West (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut) and five international teams – Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic, Germany and the United States.
Team West will be competing in Group A at the World U17 Hockey Challenge with Team Pacific, Team Quebec, Sweden and Czech Republic. Group B will comprise of Germany, USA, Team Ontario, Team Atlantic and Russia.
Center Mathew Barzal was named to Team Pacific on Thursday.
The T-Birds are in Victoria for back-to-back games against the Royals starting tonight. The game tonight is at 7:35pm and Saturday’s game is at 7:05pm. The next home game is Tuesday, November 19, against the Kelowna Rockets at ShoWare Center at 7:05pm.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2013-14 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
