Tate Olson named to Team West’s roster

November 15, 2013, Prince George BC (ISN) – The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that 16-year-old defenceman Tate Olson (Saskatoon, SK) has been named to the Team West roster for the upcoming 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The tournament begins on December 29th, 2013 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and wraps up on January 4th, 2014.

Olson was selected by the Prince George Cougars in the second round (24th overall) in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. Through 15 games, Olson has recorded two assists, is a -1 and has seen expanded power play minutes in recent games for the Cougars.

“It’s a great feeling to be selected to Team West,” comments Olson. “It’s a really good opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to the experience.”

Olson is the third Cougars player selected to this tournament joining both Jansen Harkins and Brad Morrison who were named to Team Pacific’s roster yesterday.

Olson adds, “It’s great that the three of us get the chance to test ourselves against players our own age.”

The Under 17 program is the first step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. Many players who compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge go on to represent Canada with the National Men’s Under 18 Team, National Junior Team and National Men’s Team.
