Tip a Wheat King to support Movember campaign

November 17, 2013, Brandon, MB. (ISN) – With the month of Movember half over, the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings have announced plans for their annual Tip-a-Wheat King Night.

This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, November 27th from 4:30 – 8pm at Applebees (located across from the Keystone Centre on 18th Street) in Brandon.

Several members of the Wheat Kings will be turning in their sticks and gloves for dinner plates and glasses on this night, with all tips received going to the league wide initiative to help change the face of men’s health.

Among the players that have registered for this year’s Movember campaign that are expected to make an appearance at Applebees that night include captain Ryan Pulock, veterans Quintin Lisoway, Colton Waltz, Taylor Green, Jayce Hawryluk, Jens Meilleur, Kord Pankewicz and Eric Roy as well as rookies Braylon Shmyr and Brett Kitt.

In addition to having the opportunity to meet the players, get some autographs and have your pictures taken with them, western Manitoba hockey fans attending the event will have a chance to win some great prizes from Applebees.

As an official global charity, Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of millions of moustaches around the world. Through the power of the moustache, vital funds and awareness are raised to combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.

Last season 50 teams consisting of 792 registered members across the CHL, including the Wheat Kings raised $175,583 and ranked 12th among all registered Canadian networks through their participation in Movember.

In addition to Tip a Wheat King, the ten participating Wheat Kings have been registered under the CHL platform on www.movember.com. Each player is ranked and each team as a collective will be rated throughout the CHL. Teams will be competing for the top spot in fundraising dollars and the winner will be presented with a special Movember trophy. As of Friday, the Wheat Kings were among the WHL leaders in donations generated.

Fans unable to support this year’s Tip a Wheat King Night at Applebees are encouraged to visit www.movember.com and search Canadian Hockey League to find your favorite team under the Network leaderboard on the righ hand side of the screen.

Movember supports world class men’s health programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges. These programs, directed by the Movember Foundation, are focused on awareness and education, living with and beyond cancer, staying mentally healthy, living with and beyond mental illness and research to achieve our vision of an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.

On the ice, Brandon kicks off a 4-game road trip Tuesday night in Swift Current against the Broncos. Winners of three straight games and four of their last six, the Wheat Kings expect to have newly acquired defencemen Ryan Pilon in the lineup. He was obtained in a multi-player trade from Lethbridge on Saturday.
