November 19, 2013, CHANDLER, Ariz. (ISN) – The honors keep rolling in for the No. 14 University of Delaware field hockey squad as sophomore Michaela Patzner (Rosenheim, Germany) and freshmen Esmée Peet (Zeewolde, The Netherlands) and Meghan Winesett (Centreville, Va.) were named Tuesday to the 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region.
Patzner and Peet collected first team honors while Winesett garnered second team accolades.
The honors mark the first time since the 2009 season that Delaware was represented on the squad. It is also the most for a Blue Hen team since the 2005 season when three players were honored. The 2004 UD team had five players receive All-Region accolades.
Patzner finished the 2013 campaign by leading the Colonial Athletic Association with 41 points on a league-best 16 goals and nine assists. Her 41 points ties for fourth in Delaware single-season history while the 16 goals is good for seventh in a single season. Patzner was also named to the All-CAA first team.
Peet, the CAA Player and Rookie of the Year, ended the year second on the team with 32 points on 13 goals and six assists. Her 32 points is a new single-season record for a UD freshman, besting the previous record by eight points. Additionally, the mark was good to tie for third place in the CAA. Peet also garnered All-CAA first team and All-Rookie honors.
Winesett also rewrote the Delaware history books this season as she posted nine assists, a new program record for a freshman. She also joined Patzner for the league-lead in assists. Winesett collected All-CAA second team and All-Rookie accolades.
The Blue Hens just completed one of the most successful seasons in Delaware history after posting a program record 17 victories. UD earned both CAA regular season and tournament championships en route to a NCAA Tournament berth. The Hens finished 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament following a play-in game win over Liberty before falling to No. 3 North Carolina.
