November 22, 2013, Saskatoon (ISN) – The No. 5 University of Saskatchewan Huskies led from start to finish on Friday night to defeat the Trinity Western University Spartans 81-57 at the PAC in Saskatoon.

With the win Saskatchewan improves to 6-1, while Trinity Western drops to 1-7 with the loss.

Saskatchewan opened the contest on a 9-0 run to take a 24-7 lead after the opening 10 minutes. The Spartans improved their shooting in the second quarter, but could not keep up with Canada West’s highest scoring offense as the Huskies led 43-24 at halftime.

Saskatchewan would increase the lead in the third with an 11-4 run in the opening three minutes on the way to a 66-37 lead after three quarters. Trinity Western would outscore the Huskies 20-15 in the fourth quarter.

Dalyce Emmerson scored a game-high 22 points for the Huskies on 8-of-9 shooting highlighted by a 6-for-6 start to the game. Guard Kabree Howard added another 13 points and had two steals for Saskatchewan, while Antoinette Miller collected eight rebounds.

Janelle Traber scored 15 points to lead the Spartans offensively. Kayla Gordon and Holly Strom added 10 points each. Gordon also grabbed a team-high four rebounds.

The Huskies, who entered the game as the top shooting team in the conference, shot 46% from the field in the win. Trinity Western shot 34% in the game

Trinity Western, having played the first game of their road trip Thursday night in Edmonton, returns home next weekend to take on the Victoria Vikes. The Huskies remain in Saskatoon to face the Fraser Valley Cascades Saturday night.
