November 26, 2013, Victoria (ISN) – The Victoria Cougars host the Kerry Park Islanders this Thursday. Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.

Victoria (19-3-1-1) enters the second half of their season riding a five-game winning streak.

After a 0-2-1-0 stretch, the Cougars have posted wins against the Westshore Wolves, Oceanside Generals, Saanich Braves, and Islanders.

During its latest winning streak, Victoria has outscored its opponents 27-7.

In their last game, the Cougars scored five unanswered second period goals en route to an 8-2 victory and a home-and-home series sweep of Saanich.

Leading the attack with three points apiece were Blake Roney (2 goals, 1 assist) and Jake Daughtry (1 goal, 2 assists).  Also finding the back of the net were Michael Fretz, Marino Somerville, Patrick Webb, Nick Lyons, and Liam Carradine.

Connor Beauchamp stopped 12 shots for his 13th win. In the series opener, Victoria won 5-1 following a 24 save performance from Nathan Hargrave.

Wade Johnson has been on fire as of late.  After missing four games due to an undisclosed injury, Johnson has registered two goals and seven assists for nine points in his last six games.

Leading the way offensively for the Cougars is Graham Zagrodney who leads all VIJHL defensemen with 32 points (5 goals, 27 assists).

Goaltending continues to be the backbone for Victoria.  Hargrave owns a 1.00 goals against average and a .959 save percentage in his last two starts.  In his past three starts, Beauchamp has a 1.67 G.A.A. and a .918 S.P.  Beauchamp also leads all VIJHL goalies with six shutouts.

Kerry Park (10-12-1-3) has won three straight games for the first time this season.

With wins over Saanich, Westshore, and most recently the Peninsula Panthers, Dale Purinton and his troops look to close the gap in the South Island Division.  Currently, the Islanders sit one point back of third-place Westshore and three points back of second-place Peninsula.

However, the Wolves and Panthers are back in action on Wednesday.

There is a sense of excitement brewing in Mill Bay following Kerry Park’s 5-3 win over Peninsula.

Armand Uomoleale (2 goals, 1 assist) and Francis Slicer (1 goal, 2 assists) led the charge for the Islanders who scored two third period goals within a span of 48 seconds to seal the victory.

Kerry Park’s leading scorer Alex Milligan was ejected at the 16:36 mark of the second period after receiving a five-minute major for boarding.

Jackson Jane stopped 37 shots for the win.

One familiar face will not be in the Islanders lineup on Thursday.  Corey Peterson was dealt last week to Westshore in exchange for Hobin Zinck.

This is Kerry Park’s third visit to Victoria.  The Islanders, through four games, have so far been outscored 23-3 in the series.
