November 27, 2013, VICTORIA (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes women’s basketball team are coming off a four-game win streak as they head into their final two games of the 2013 portion of the Canada West season. The Vikes are currently 5-3 in the Pacific Division and will travel for a pair of games against Trinity Western, currently 1-7.
The Vikes are third in the Pacific thanks to their conference-topping three-point percentage of 37 per cent. Third-year guard Shaylyn Crisp is 45 per cent from beyond the arc, while the Vikes have the top-two conference shooters from the line. Jenny Lewis and Cassandra Goodis have been 95 and 90 per cent accurate, respectively.
Fourth-year guard Jessica Renfrew has led the Victoria side in scoring for the past six-straight games including a season-high 20 points in the 66-51 victory over Winnipeg on Nov. 23. Meanwhile, second year Jenna Bugiardini has showcased her two-way play picking up an average of 6.4 rebounds-per-game and going second in team scoring with an average of 12 points-per-game.
This weekend the Vikes will look to book a couple more wins before the December break before turning around to host the No. 4 Saskatchewan Huskies and No. 3 Alberta Pandas on Jan. 10 and 11, respectively. In between the Canada West match ups the Vikes will travel to Halifax, N.S. to compete in the Thunder Selects CIS Holiday Classic. That tournament full Schedule is available online.

Trinity Western is coming into this weekend suffering a six game losing streak. The last meeting between the Vikes and Trinity took place in November 2012 and saw the Vikes defeat the Spartans both consecutive nights. The Spartans are led by fifth-year forward Holly Strom, who set six Spartans season records and led Canada West in scoring with 19.2 points per game last year. Currently, Strom leads the Spartans in scoring and rebounds with an average of 16.0 points-per-game and 8.0 rebounds per game. Janelle Traber is second on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per game. Strom is also tied for sixth in Canada West in rebounds with 8.0 per game and is tied for fifth in Canada West in blocked shots with 1.1 per game. Laurissa Weigl is 20th in the conference with 6.1 boards per game and also ninth in Canada West with 2.3 steals per game.
The Vikes will face the Spartans on Friday, Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed with live video and stats at canadawest.tv.
