November 30, 2013, Saskatoon (ISN) – Dalyce Emmerson scored 23 points and ripped down 16 rebounds to lead the No. 4 University of Saskatchewan Huskies to a 68-58 win Saturday night over the visiting University of Manitoba Bisons at the PAC in Saskatoon.

Emmerson shot 8-for-10 from the field on her way to recording a double-double. The Prince Albert, Sask. native also had three rebounds and three assists in the game.

Saskatchewan improves to 9-1 with the weekend sweep over the Bisons, while Manitoba drops to 3-7 on the season. The Huskies won Friday night’s contest 78-67 in overtime.

Saskatchewan led 8-2 in the opening minutes on Saturday night, but that was as big as the lead would get in the first quarter. Manitoba closed the gap in the closing minutes to finish the quarter trailing 22-21.

The Huskies ended the second quarter with another 8-2 spurt to lead 39-33 at halftime. Midway through the third frame the Huskies extended the lead to eight and would maintain that margin heading into the fourth quarter with a 54-46 lead.

Early in the fourth the Bisons reduced the Huskie lead to four points with eight minutes to play. Still with three minutes to play Saskatchewan continued to cling to its five-point lead as Manitoba tried to force overtime for a second straight game. An Emmerson three-point play with just over two minutes to go would seal the win for the Huskies.

Desarae Hogberg and Kelsey Trulsrud scored nine points each in the victory. Jordyn Halvorson grabbed seven rebounds to go along with three points.

Selena Carmona-Galdamez scored 11 points to lead the way offensively for the Bisons. Robyn Eyer and Stephanie Gill each added nine points.

Both teams return to Canada West action January 10-11. Saskatchewan travels west to take on the Victoria Vikes and the UBC Thunderbirds. Manitoba will host the Trinity Western Spartans and the Fraser Valley Cascades.
