November 30, 2013, Brandon (ISN) – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies upset the No. 2 ranked Brandon University Bobcats in a comeback 3-2 (25-27, 25-22, 26-28, 25-19, 15-11) victory Saturday night in Brandon.

With Brandon taking the first and third sets in extra points at 27-25 and 28-26, the Huskies found a stride in the fourth set rallying to a 21-14 lead. Brandon scored the next six points, but an Anne Hanbidge service run ended the set 25-19. Saskatchewan had won the second set 25-22.

In the fifth and final set, the Huskies took advantage of Bobcats errors to take an 8-4 lead. Brandon’s Meaghan Robertson and Vavovai Alono helped the Bobcats to pull within one at 9-8, but Saskatchewan quickly took back the ball and stayed in control. A Kayla Tycholiz attack down the middle ended the match 15-11.

With the win, Saskatchewan improves to 5-7. Brandon drops to 9-3. A night earlier, Brandon won 3-1 (25-17, 27-25, 18-25, 25-18). The matches marked the final regular season weekend of the first half of the Canada West women’s volleyball season.

Hanbidge led the Huskies in the match recording double-digits in kills with 13 and digs at 16. Tycholiz, Emmalyn Copping and Candace Hueser each also recorded 12 kills for the Huskies. Copping added another 14 digs, while Hueser tallied 10.

Shanlee McLennan led the Bobcats with 16 kills and 13 digs, while Robertson added another 10 digs.

Saskatchewan returns to the court in 2014 at home on January 10-11 hosting the Winnipeg Wesmen, while Brandon travels to meet the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
