November 30, 2013, Seattle (ISN) – In a Saturday night matchup at ShoWare Center, the Victoria Royals visited the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Royals gave Patrik Polivka the start in goal, while Danny Mumaugh got the call for the Thunderbirds.

The Thunderbirds opened the scoring early with a goal by Alexander Delnov just 2:11 into the game. Seattle added to their lead 38 seconds later off of a deflection by Roberts Lipsbergs. Brandon Magee looked to spark his teammates at 7:05 when he dropped the gloves for a spirited fight against Jaimen Yakubowski. The Royals then cut the lead in half at the 11:03 mark when Mitch Skapski pounced on a Logan Fisher rebound in the crease to put home his first goal in a Royals uniform. The Royals added pressure in the late stages of the period, but failed to equalize and headed into the first intermission down by a 2-1 score.

Victoria evened the game at 4:45 of the middle frame after Skapski forced a turnover in front of the net and fed it to Logan Fisher who buried it past the Seattle netminder for his fourth point in as many games. Shea Theodore later put the Thunderbirds back in front with a goal at 12:41. Seattle then struck for two goals from Matt Barzal and Branden Troock 19 seconds apart before Polivka gave way to Coleman Vollrath in the Victoria crease. Lipsbergs added his second on the powerplay and the Thunderbirds held a 6-2 advantage after 40 minutes of play.

Brandon Fushimi notched the Royals’ third of the game at the 7:12 mark of the third stanza when Axel Blomqvist circled the net and fed a cross-crease pass for the easy tap-in past Mumaugh. That was as close as Victoria would draw as Seattle clamped down defensively the rest of the way to earn the victory. Thunderbirds 6 Royals 3.

Victoria went 0/4=0.0% on the powerplay, while Seattle went 2/6=33.3%. The Thunderbirds outshot the Royals 33- 30.

The Royals will look to avenge the loss on Tuesday night when they host projected first overall 2014 NHL Draft pick Sam Reinhart and the Kootenay Ice. The puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
