November 30, 2013, Kamloops, BC (ISN) – The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team is entering it’s Canada West Christmas Break on a big high.

The WolfPack swept the visiting Mount Royal Cougars this weekend at the Tournament Capital Centre. On Saturday (Nov 30), the WolfPack dumped the Cougars 100-73. It’s the second time this season that TRU has hit the century mark. The first was in an exhibition tournament against the Evergreen College GeoDucks (NAIA) in October.

“I am really proud of the guys,”said WolfPack head coach Scott Clark, whose team moved to 6 and 4 on the season and to sit in sole possession of second place in the Canada West’s Pacific Division. ” They paid the price this weekend and I am very happy for them. Going into the break in second place is well deserved for them. They put lots of time in the summer and weight room. We had two-a-days in September and October.”

The WolfPack trailed in the contest 19-17 after the first quarter but caught fire scoring 30 points in the second quarter to lead 47-38. That second quarter outburst was ignited by Brett Rouault (4th year, guard, Vernon, BC). Rouault was 5 for 6 from beyond the arc and had 17 points to lead the ‘Pack going into the dressing room.

He wound up with a team high 19 points in the contest.

The third quarter saw TRU out gun Mount Royal 31-16 and put the game out of reach. Every single WolfPack player got at least two points in the contest. Clark praised his bench, whom he had to utilize when a number of starters picked up three or more fouls.

“In particular, Zach (Usherwood, 3rd year, guard, Coquitlam, BC) was great,” he said. “He played with great energy defensively. He pushed the ball and made plays. I thought he set the tone. Brett (Rouault) made some shots and that was nice to see but it started with Zach.”

Usherwood was named the McDonalds/TRU Bookstore “Leader of the Pack” for scoring 14 points, five assists, five rebounds and one steal.

Tallon Milne (4th year, forward, Vanderhoof, BC) had 10 points and 10 rebounds along with going 4 for 4 at the foul line for TRU.

Ta’Quan Zimmerman (3rd year, guard, Waterbury, CT) had 17 points, five assists and six rebounds.

Will Ondrik (3rd year, forward, Vernon, BC) added 12 points and seven rebounds while Reese Pribilsky (3rd year, guard, Victoria, BC) had seven points, five assists and five steals.

Mount Royal , who drops to 5 and 5 on the year had 22 points from Awet Abraha (4th year, guard, Calgary, AB). James Levebre (3rd year, forward, Didsbury, AB) had 15 points while Deng Awak (4th year, guard, Brooks, AB) contributed 10 points. They sit in a three way tie for third place in the Pacific Division with Trinity Western and Fraser Valley.

The WolfPack return to Canada West play on January 8, 2014 when they visit the Cougars in Regina. Mount Royal will entertain Lethbridge that same night.

Next home game for Thompson Rivers isn’t until January 17 th when they play host to the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades. Tip off at the Tournament Capital Centre is 8 pm.

DOUBLE DRIBBLES: The last time the WolfPack scored 100 points in a regular season Canada West game was November 26, 20111 when they beat the Regina Cougars 111-100 at the Tournament Capital Centre. Justin King had 35 points for TRU that night.

The ‘Pack will play the NCAA Div II Western Washington Vikings on December 17 th in Bellingham, Washington. TRU will then head to California after Christmas to take on the Cal San Marcos Cougars (Dec 30) and San Diego Christian Hawks (Dec 31), two NAIA schools.
