December 2, 2013, Edmonton (ISN) – Edmonton, AB (ISN) – Two members of the Edmonton Oil Kings were invited to attend the Team Canada Evaluation Camp for the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships, Hockey Canada Announced Monday.
Oil Kings Captain Griffin Reinhart and Assistant Captain Curtis Lazar were both named to the 25-man camp roster.
Reinhart is a holdover from the 2013 World Junior squad that finished fourth in Ufa, Russia. The 19-year-old defenceman had one assist in five games for the Canadian squad last year. The New York Islanders first round draft pick has 2 goals and 8 assists in 18 games this season for the Oil Kings while posting a plus-5 rating. Reinhart is one of just four returnees invited to the Canadian camp.
Lazar will be attempting to make his first World Junior team having previously played for Canada at the Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. The 18-year-old Ottawa Senators first round pick has 17 goals and 14 assists in 23 games this season with the Oil Kings.
If he makes the team, Lazar would become the third member of the modern era Oil Kings to take part in the tournament, joining Reinhart and Mark Pysyk (2012).
