December 3, 2013 (ISN) – Across Canada, more than $1.3 million dollars was raised for Jumpstart to help local kids in need. Thanks to the dedicated employees of Canadian Tire Corporation, 18,000 kids in Canadian schools will get the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation programming.

For two weeks, the employees of the Canadian Tire Family of Companies have been going above and beyond to support Jumpstart, their charity of choice. With a $1 million fundraising goal, Canadian Tire believed in the power of sport and its employees from Canadian Tire, Mark’s, Canadian Tire Financial Services, Distribution and FGL Sports who worked together to donate, canvas and host fundraisers. Thanks to a 100 per cent match guarantee from Canadian Tire Corporation, the employees surpassed their goal and will be helping more than 18,000 kids play.

Not all kids get the same chances to participate in sports and recreation programming. Thanks to the 2012 campaign, students at DA Morrison Middle School in Toronto as well as Griffin Park and Eastbrook Elementary Schools in Brooks, Alberta are learning to skate. With a large number of new Canadians attending the schools, most students didn’t know how to skate, and certainly didn’t own a pair of skates to try. Canadian Tire, its employees and Jumpstart have made sure these kids can now participate in one of Canada’s favourite pastimes.

It wasn’t just bake sales that helped these employees raise money; fundraisers showed no shortage of creativity to raise funds for the kids. All employee-run and employee-participated, the campaign was incredibly successful and will be run year after year.

Thanks to all of the employees from across the Family of Companies as well as Canadian Tire Corporation for your help in getting kids into the game. You’ve helped give more kids in school a sporting chance.
