December 3, 2013, Brandon, Manitoba (ISN) – Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, in association with the Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that 17-year old Jayce Hawryluk has been chosen the Western Hockey League club’s IMPACT Player of the Month for November.
A former second round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in the 2011 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, the Roblin, Manitoba product led Brandon in scoring last month with eight goals and 20 points in thirteen games. Of those eight goals, six came on back to back hat tricks against the Silvertips and Hurricanes in Everett and Lethbridge respectively.
A member of the Canadian Team that captured a Gold Medal at the prestigious Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech Republic this past summer, Jayce finished the month with an impressive plus/minus rating of +11.
This marks the second time in his WHL career that he has been chosen the hockey club’s Player of the Month. As a 16-year old rookie, Hawryluk earned the monthly honour in December 2012.
Entering Wednesday’s game against the visiting Regina Pats, Hawryluk continues to lead the club in scoring with eleven goals and 31 points in 28 games. He is currently three points up on John Quenneville and five ahead of captain Ryan Pulock.
Since joining the Wheat Kings in September 2012, the 5’10” 190 lb. center has scored 29 goals and 73 points in 89 regular season games.
This award is presented to the Wheat King who contributes to the team and exemplifies the characteristics of what IMPACT stands for…Inspire, Motivate, Participate, Achieve, Champion and Team.
Hawryluk, who is eligible for the 2014 National Hockey League Draft, will be recognized at this Friday’s game against the visiting Swift Current Broncos at Westman Communications Group Place.
Brandon enters the week with a record of 14-13-2-0 and sitting in eighth place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
