December 2, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Victoria Royals today announced that the club raised $6,080 during its Movember presented by Tillicum Centre campaign in support of the Movember Foundation and men’s health.
The $6,080 raised by the Royals was the third highest dollar amount raised by any team in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) this year. As a whole, the CHL and its member clubs raised in excess of $140,000 for the cause in 2013.
While Movember has ended, fans are reminded to “Keep Your Mo – Save Some Dough” at the Select Your Tickets box office for tomorrow’s game against Kootenay! Right up until puck drop, fans who show their real or fake moustaches at the box office will receive a $5 ticket in celebration of the Royals’ Movember efforts this past month!
The Royals would like to particularly thank the many coaches of minor hockey teams throughout Greater Victoria that took the opportunity to participate in the team’s Movember efforts. Over 20 minor hockey teams combined to help the Royals raise nearly $5,000 this year including Saanich Minor Hockey’s Novice 1B team who contributed $1,200 alone! As a reward for their hard work, the Saanich Novice 1B team will be headed to a Royals game in style with a complementary luxury suite while every other group that participated will be given a team set of tickets to see the Royals play as well!
Brandon Magee, Keegan Kanzig, Logan Nelson and Brett Cote, otherwise known as the Royals’ Mo Bros, combined to raise nearly $900 this year. Kanzig led the way amongst the Mo Bros this season with a $273.60 donation total. The Royals would also like to congratulate Carol Blevins who has won a prize package courtesy of Tillicum Centre! Carol’s name was drawn from every fan that contributed to the Mo Bros at home games during November.
The Royals’ Movember presented by Tillicum Centre campaign was one of the club’s many charitable efforts scheduled for this season. The team is attempting to improve upon the over $350,000 it raised for local organizations and charitable causes last season with events such as Teddy Bear Toss Night on Saturday, December 7th and Pink in the Rink on Saturday, February 1st!
