December 2, 2013 (ISN) – Media Sponsorship proposal Wounded Warrior Run B.C. Wounded Warriors Canada is a non-profit organization that helps Canadian Forces members who have been wounded or injured in their service to Canada. Wounded Warriors’ primary focus is on mental health and, particularly, the staggering impact of Operational and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD). They help find solutions where gaps have left our veterans in need.

To enhance financial support and raise public awareness for Wounded Warriors Canada, the Wounded Warriors Run BC (WWRBC) was created. A team of 5 endurance runners will relay run the entire length of Vancouver Island for six consecutive days, February 16-21, 2014. Though military members, the team is not sanctioned by Canadian Forces and has volunteered their time in support of Wounded Warriors Canada. They will run, rain or shine, from Port Hardy to Esquimalt covering an excess of 600 kilometers raising funds for Wounded Warriors Canada.

Each athlete will run a total of 1 ½ to 2 hours daily in a relay style, averaging 30-60 km per day. Island Sports News is pleased to be the official media coverage travelling with the team and reporting on all aspects of the journey through stories, video and still photography. Island Sports News will travel with the team to provide media coverage including stops at all Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Branches along the planned route. The Legions will serve as a central hub for community relations as well as a donation collection points and First Nations, Firefighters, schools and community involvement and support.

Founded in 2006, Wounded Warriors Canada is a non-profit organization that helps Canadian Forces members – be they Regular Force or Reservists – who have been injured in their service to Canada. Their mandate is to help any Veteran in need as they transition to civilian life. Through a wide range of programs and services, they help service members in need. Currently, the primary focus is on mental health and particularly, the staggering impact of PTSD perpetrated by Operational Stress Injuries.

This is the first fundraising initiative for Wounded Warriors Canada to be held on Vancouver Island. The fundraising dollars will provide assistance to retired and current serving members of the Canadian Forces. In future years the team is hoping to grow this as a National event held across Canada.
