Winterhawks fall 4-1 in Calgary

December 8, 2013, Calgary (ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks (22-6-2-2) dropped a 4-1 decision in Calgary Sunday against the Hitmen (18-7-1-3) in the final game of a four-game road trip.

Portland scored the lone goal of the first period when Oliver Bjorkstrand struck at the 9:15 mark to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead going into the second period.

Late in the second, Calgary got a pair of goals 2:10 apart from Greg Chase and Kenton Helgesen to take a 2-1 lead into the third.

Calgary’s Pavel Padakin scored 1:37 into the third to give the Hitmen a 3-1 lead, and late in the game with goaltender Brendan Burke on the bench for an extra attacker, Padakin scored into the empty net to make it a 4-1 final.

Burke made 29 saves on 32 shots, with the Hitmen adding the empty netter. Hitmen goaltender Chris Driedger made 24 saves on 25 shots.

The Hawks return to action Friday in Seattle against the Thunderbirds.
