12 Days of World Juniors: 12 goals ties Tavares for second all-time

December 26, 2013 (ISN) – John Tavares first suited up for Canada as a fresh-faced 17-year-old on a very good 2008 team. He followed that up by being named the tournament MVP in Ottawa a year later.

In that tournament, Tavares scored a hat trick against the U.S.A. in a preliminary round, but perhaps his biggest play was when he fought off two Russians and got the puck to Jordan Eberle to tie the semi-final game with five seconds remaining.

In total, Tavares would score 12 goals (tied for second all-time with Jeff Carter and Eric Lindros) and earn 20 points while representing Canada at this event.
